The Switch to Solar
Sumitrabai Kendre sells tea and biscuits on the footpath in Koregaon Park, Pune, India. Her clients are office goers during the day and passers-by at night.
She used to use a small rechargeable electric lantern for the nights. Her daily expense to re-charge her lantern battery was Rs.20.
She bought a solar device with KPay and was paying Rs.12.5 per day (for 4 hours of operation). For her this was a huge saving and she has now paid off the cost of the device and it is completely free for her.
This saving has allowed her to provide more for her family.

Aligning with The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog)
KPay is proud to start working with NITI Aayog in implementing our innovative pay-as-you-go technology for solar, household appliances, pumps and farming equipment to transform the lives of the bottom-of-the- pyramid populace in rural India. Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and his team have taken this initiative and we share their vision of using technology to uplift the rural poor.

Partnering to bring light to remote areas of India facing electricity shortage
KPay’s innovative pay-as-you-go enabled solar home lighting systems are being distributed in partnership with SSP and Agni Solar in less developed regions of Maharashtra. Local women entrepreneurs were trained to become distributors and allot these devices to the users. The users can use the KPay technology to pay for the device as per their requirement and affordability. The entire technology works via USSD and/or sms based payment gateways and does not require smart phones or internet access. KPay’s technology has the potential to disrupt the way powered devices and household appliances are bought and sold. We are moving to the era of “energy as a service” and reaching out to the “last mile” customer.
